Tattoos are more than just a trend or a permanent marking on an individual's skin; they're a work of art. Some of the best Los Angeles based tattoo artists — Tricia Allen, F. Kirk Kelly, Greg James, Erika Stanley, and the late John Brian "Swag" Knowles — discuss the style and creativity that go into each tattoo they design. Though some of them specialize in certain types of tattoos, they can do it all, from Polynesian style to cartoons.

Each episode of the series focuses on one of the tattoo artists, entailing how they began tattooing and how they've improved over the years. The series also answers many questions viewers might have about the tattooing process, such as the pain factor, caring instructions and tips, and the emotions associated with it. In addition, some regular clients tell their tattoo stories, including the quality of work the artists perform and the inspiration behind some of their tattoos.
