Set in 1913 Denmark as the shadow of World War I begins to fall across Europe, The Kiss follows Anton, a noble cavalry officer who helps a local Baron out of a roadside mishap and is invited to dine at the family's castle. There he meets Edith, the Baron's wheelchair-bound daughter — and as the two grow closer, Anton is left to untangle whether his feelings for her are genuine, or born of pity.
Directed by Academy Award winner Bille August (Pelle the Conqueror, The House of the Spirits) and based on Stefan Zweig's novel Beware of Pity, the film has earned honors including the Audience Award at Denmark's Robert Awards and the Grand Prix at the Warsaw International Film Festival.
